Locally Defined Goals & Portrait of a Learner

In Fleming County, accountability begins with our community’s goals and vision for students. The Learner of Distinction Profile describes the six competencies every student develops: service, problem-solving, innovation & creativity, growth & achievement, teamwork, and communication. These competencies prepare students to succeed in life beyond school.

Vibrant Learning

In Fleming County, Vibrant Learning means classrooms filled with choice, relevance, and real-world experiences. The four cornerstones of Vibrant Learning are brought to life across teaching, standards, and authentic demonstrations of learning that are all connected to our Learner of Distinction Profile.

Multiple Measures of Student Success

We believe student success is bigger than a test score. In Fleming County, growth is measured through many indicators like academic progress, durable skills, creativity, readiness for life, and student well-being. Thus creating a fuller picture of who our students are and what they can do.

Community Engagement & Empowerment

Accountability is not something schools do alone. Families, students, and community partners are co-creators in this work, with the Local Accountability Advisory Council (LAAC) helping to guide, review, and strengthen our shared vision for learning.

Transparent & Public Reporting

We make learning visible in Fleming County Schools. Through our Measures of Quality 4.1 Dashboard, Celebrations of Learning, and community showcases, families and community members see progress in stories, portfolios, and data. This makes accountability open, honest, and accessible to all.

Ongoing Innovation & Continuous Improvement

Accountability in Fleming County is a living system. We constantly pilot new ideas, gather feedback, and refine our practices so that learning, teaching, and reporting improve every year for every student.

OUR ACCOUNTABILITY JOURNEY

A New Definition of Accountability

In Fleming County Schools, accountability is more than a test score.

It is a shared promise between schools, families, and the community to prepare every student for college, career, and life. Our model reflects the whole learner — their growth, skills, readiness, and well-being — and is designed with our community, for our community.

Why We Changed

For too long, accountability in education meant a single score on a single test. That system didn’t capture the talents, resilience, or real-world readiness of our students.

Fleming County made a bold commitment to redefine accountability so it reflects growth, mastery, and readiness across many measures.
