At Fleming County High School, learning grows from student passions and the needs of the community. For Class of 2025 graduate Christal Arce Acuña, that connection shaped her entire high school experience.

Her story reflects Vibrant Learning through purposeful and contextual relevance as she explored interdisciplinary work, authentic engagement, and service that strengthened both her skills and her voice.

Blending Leadership and Applied Skills

Christal embraced opportunities that blended academics with real-world application. Managing sports teams allowed her to practice leadership and organization while supporting athletes and coaches.

“I saw firsthand how each player, no matter their position, was essential to the team’s success,” she shared.

These moments helped her develop strong communication skills and a sense of unity among the groups she supported.

Building Community Through Language and Support

She also brought her talents into the community through her role as a bilingual interpreter at Simons Middle School. She worked closely with teachers and administrators to help Spanish-speaking students and families feel welcomed and informed.

“I worked closely with teachers, administrators, and other interpreters to help families feel supported. This experience taught me how important it is to communicate clearly and listen actively,” Christal explained.

Service That Strengthens Community Connections

Christal contributed to the FRYSC Christmas program at Simons Middle School where she helped ensure families received gifts, food cards, and support during the holiday season. She describes the work as deeply rewarding.

“Through my involvement in this program, I have learned the true meaning of service and the impact it can have on those around us,” she said.

This experience helped her understand how compassion and teamwork can brighten the lives of families across the county.

Problem-Solving in Real Time

Problem-solving played a significant role in Christal’s growth. She collaborated with her younger brother on projects, handled responsibilities for athletic programs, and navigated constantly changing needs while interpreting for immigrant families.

“I have learned how to stay calm under pressure and find practical solutions that kept things running smoothly,” she shared.

These experiences built confidence and a strong foundation for her future career goals.

Supporting Fleming County’s Vision

Her journey reflects Fleming County’s commitment to moonshot accountability. Christal’s growth is visible through her reflections, portfolio artifacts, and service experiences.

Her story shows how Fleming County continues to move toward a community-powered approach to learning where meaningful work and student voice demonstrate readiness more clearly than a single score ever could.
